The best cycle routes in London
Regent’s Place is the perfect pitstop
It’s time to discover some of the most beautiful bike routes around London – and Regent’s Place is the ideal cycling base: head east or west or explore neighbouring Regent’s Park where you can spot giraffes over the fence at London Zoo or head over and sit on the gorgeous slopes of Primrose Hill.
So read on to discover the best bike hire, safe storage and outdoor cafes and restaurants for on-the-road snacks and takeout as you go.
Hire a bike for the day
For free ebikes and scooters, Lime Bikes have spots all over London so simply download their app to locate your nearest one. You’ll automatically be taken to the map screen, showing all available Lime vehicles in the area. If you don’t see any vehicle icons displayed on the map, zoom out to search a wider area. Always wear a helmet to be totally safe.
We’ve also got a Brompton Bike hire locker (it’s located in front of Euston Tower and facing Euston Road and Warren Street Underground Station) so you can wheel around on a design classic. Simply go to bromptonbikehire.com to register and hire a folding bike – it’s either an annual fee of £5 and £10 a day to hire or an annual fee of £20 and £5 a day to hire. You can find out which other bike lockers are open on the Brompton Bike website. It’s perfect for folding and storing if you stop for a coffee or lunch and don’t have a lock plus they take care of the maintenance.
Borrow one of TfL’s Santander bikes from nearby Hampstead Road, Warren Street and Longford Street. Simply download TfL’s Santander Cycles app or go to any of the docking station terminals with your bank card and touch the screen to get started. There’s no need to book, you simply hire a Santander Cycle, ride it, then return it to any docking station across London.
The best routes from Regent’s Place
Head east to Limehouse Basin
One of the most fascinating and fun bike routes across London is the Regent’s Canal (which starts in our sister neighbourhood of Paddington Central) and reaches right down to Limehouse Basin. Situated just behind Regent’s Park on the north side, it runs through major landmarks including King’s Cross and Old Ford Lock and is a brilliant way to see London cycling past narrowboats, beautiful houses and greenery.
Go west to Hayes
Starting off from the Regent’s Canal at the top of Regent’s Park, this easy route takes you through the gorgeous backdrop of Little Venice then through Westbourne, Kensal Green, Harlesden and Alperton. You’ll then pass Northala Fields (featuring four artificial hills made out of the rubble from the old Wembley Stadium) and Southall before finishing at Hayes where the Paddington Arm joins with the main branch of the Grand Union Canal. Full of beautiful greenery and gentle backdrops, this is the perfect route to clear your head. Stop off for a quick rest then cycle back for lunch or dinner at one of Paddington Central’s welcoming bars, restaurants and cafes. You’ll deserve it.
Pedal round Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill
While bikes aren’t allowed in the inner section of Regent’s Park you can still wheel round the northern section of Broad Walk, between Chester Road and the Outer Circle. It’s pretty car-free and is only 2.8 miles so doesn’t take long and the huge mansions surrounding the park will keep you entertained. Nearby Primrose Hill is also a lovely place to sit and look over the city with some good food and nourishing drinks (cycling on the paths isn’t allowed so be ready to walk and push your bike).
On-the-road food and drinks
We have plenty of outdoor seating for those with tired legs so head to Black Sheep Coffee, Nuvola, Daisy Green or Pret A Manger and Starbucks for much-needed liquid refreshment. You can also pop into Amazon Fresh or Sainbury’s to rustle up a picnic of your choice while social wellness spot House of Wisdom is open to all. Book a spot for a post-ride yoga class and stretch any sore limbs to leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.
Safe storage
Visitors can use the cycle racks located by 286 Euston Road, outside the Santander building or on Euston Road opposite the Santander building and along towards Great Portland Street station.
