Success Stories
Regent’s Place celebrates diversity and seeks volunteers for school-based programme.

Regent’s Place hosted an event celebrating the success of Proud to Be, a leading educational programme that uses the power of poetry to help young people celebrate their cultural heritage, raise aspirations and inspire diverse progression routes into employment.

Regent’s Place’s owner, British Land, has partnered with BMT, which celebrates the ‘awesome everyday stories of black men and women’, to run the Proud to Be project for the past three years. The scheme provides fun educational resources and sessions with local schools and community groups designed to encourage children to think about what their cultural identity means to them.

Students from local Netley Primary School attended the Show & Tell event which featured live spoken-word performances from some of the projects’ ambassadors, who shared their personal histories through the powerful medium of poetry.

If you’d like to find out more, please contact Regent’s Place Senior Social Impact Manager,  Nicola Roberts.

This was followed by a series of workshops, encouraging the children to discuss their identity through writing, discover inspirational figures from minority backgrounds, and engage with project ambassadors.

The scheme is currently looking for more brilliant volunteers to support the programme – whether that’s by offering workshops in local schools and attending assemblies or sharing your culture with colleagues and your community through poems of your own.

Nicola Roberts, Social Impact Manager at Regent’s Place, said: “It was fantastic to see so many young people and volunteers sharing their stories through the Proud to Be programme.

We all know how crucial attracting diverse talent is for a business’s success and that it’s more important than ever to ensure that everyone feels empowered to be themselves. Proud to Be brings people together and starts to break down some of the barriers so we can create places in which everyone can thrive.”

Making long-lasting impactful changes and supporting young people in the Camden area is part of British Land’s ongoing commitment to creating thriving spaces at Regent’s Place and customers are encouraged to get involved with volunteering opportunities over the coming year.
