Women's Health Innovation Showcase

News

On 20 November, we hosted one of the key events of London Life Science Week at One Triton Square.

“There’s no path to equality in a world that neglects women’s health”. This Melinda French Gates quote was the resounding message of the Women’s Health Innovation Showcase at One Triton Square.

We heard from 18 incredible entrepreneurs, investors and experts leading the charge on maximising the personal, societal and economic benefits to come from women’s health equality.

The morning began with Dr Pooja Sikka (Crossborder Impact Ventures) making the compelling case for why closing the women’s health gap represents a $ 1 trillion global opportunity. While the equity equation does not yet stack up, with funding for women’s health inconsistent, she spoke of hope for the future, highlighting that the mood music is starting to change.

Moderated by Jane Wall (BioIndustry Association), the first panel with Dr Sioned Jones (BoobyBiome), Nara Daubenay (Phaim Pharma), and Amber Vodegal (28X) was a fantastic testament to authenticity, ‘creative destruction’ and focusing on ‘return on mission’ throughout your entrepreneurial journey.

They spoke of the necessity of collaboration when it comes to data sets, taking risks, building companies you would want your children to inherit and the power of storytelling when it comes to your value proposition.

The second panel of the morning, moderated by Alex Butler (Sport England) explored the serious challenge of the gender data gap. Speakers Elsa Zekeng (Sokar Data), Ann O’Neill (Adora Digital Health), Devika Wood (Brain+), and Veronika Bridgman (Unravel) discussed the systemic lack of data across critical issues, from perimenopause and PMS to breast cancer and dementia.
The panelists highlighted that insufficient data not only impacts personal health but carries a significant, negative global economic impact, ultimately stressing the urgent need for better funding and integrated data strategies to improve diagnosis and care.
Six game-changing founders shared their solutions to improve women’s health outcomes:
  • Dr Susan Kelly, Founder & CEO of aflo – offering tools to help asthma sufferers use their inhaler properly, an issue that disproportionally impacts women.
  • Clara Toombes, Founder & CEO of Fertilia AI – helping to solve a tough, disconnected and financially draining fertility journey by giving couples control through a data-driven platform that offers clarity, expert advice and support.
  • Anoushka Menon, Co-founder & CEO of Genie Fertility – a tenant at Regent’s Place using menstrual blood to test uterine health and provide suggested fixes to improve fertility by up to 45%.
  • Kate Ferguson, Chief of Staff at Samphire Neuroscience – showcased Nettle, an at home wearable targeting period pain and mood regulation.
  • Nina van Schauck, Co-founder & COO of Peripear – introduced a wearable leveraging thermotherapy to warm the skin, aiming to make births safer and minimise the long-term damage that has come to be accepted in childbirth.
  • Naomi McGregor, Founder & CEO of Movetru – a company using real time objective movement data to give personalised recommendations to reduce injury risk and improve performance.
Closing the morning with a powerful call to action, Deirdre O’Neil, Co-founder of Hertility, emphasised the need to address algorithmic bias in healthcare. She highlighted Hertility’s remarkable success in reducing diagnosis times for 18 conditions from years to mere days, proving that collective action and innovation can not only save lives but help create them too.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for a truly impactful morning at the Women’s Health Innovation Showcase. We hope to see you at One Triton Square again soon.
